Common Confusion: Love vs Affection

Part 1 →

There are some things that are commonly confused. In this series I will attempt to address some of them.

There is a big difference between love and affection. Love is not feeling it is an action. Affection is a feeling. Affection is dependent on a condition. Love is not. Love has no reason. Emotions change. Affection comes and goes and comes back again. Love does not. God doesn't just have affection for us. He loves us. The action of the cross proves it. May we learn to love with the same reckless love that Jesus has loved us with.

Verses:

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. - John 15:13

15 So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?”
He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.”
He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”
16 He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?”
He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.”
He said to him, “Tend My sheep.”
17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?”
And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep. - John 21:15-17
