In season 8 episode 11 of Doctor Who titled "Dark Water" Clara betrays the Doctor and after her plan fails she confesses she can't even say sorry because she would do it again. She asks "What now?" and the Doctor replies, "Go to hell". She starts to walk away and the Doctor, confused, ask where she is going. He wasn't telling her to go to hell, he was saying he was going to go to hell for her. He ask if she really thinks he cares so little about her that betraying him would make a difference. It makes me think, how often have I heard, "Go to hell" when God is really saying, "I'll go to hell and back for you. Not just on your good days. On your worst days, I'd go." How many times do I view things through the lens of who I am rather than the lens of who He is? How many times do I think he is upset when he is really calling, "Dallas, My Dallas, do you think I love you so little?" Amanda Cook said it well when she said we often feel the need to add, "yeah, but..." when talking about God's grace and mercy but we can't exaggerate it. We just can't.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness. - Lamentations 3:22-23
